Statement

Scottish art by this award winning artist who draws and paints unique artwork based on the nude figure, Scottish harbours and the built environment  working in oils, acrylic and pastel. "My current work is is mainly inspired by the light and atmosphere of the Scottish coastline and harbours as well as the architecture and light of our towns and cities. My main influences at this time are J.D. Ferguson and the Scottish Colourists. I am also currently inspired by the styles of Dufy, Matisse and the Fauves as well as Impressionism. My work has gone through many phases and periods over several years, examples of which are all represented in my portfolio. Early work was much tighter and more detailed from a period when I was influenced by early Dutch and Flemmish art. More recent pieces show more freedom of expression and colour, much looser technique and the joy of using paint in a more direct painting style.

From my travels abroad I have been inspired by the colour and atmosphere of Mediterranean old towns to produce a series of lively, colourful works.

I also pay homage to some of the great jazz and blues musicians in drawings, pastels and paintings".
